We are looking for an experienced senior planner or an Associate Director who can provide advice to Lichfields’ major development clients, particularly house builders and developers, supporting the delivery of strategic land through the planning system.

Reporting to a Planning / Senior Director, you will demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team, manage junior staff and will normally assist / lead in the following areas of work:

  • Planning applications and appeals;
  • site appraisals;
  • planning strategies;
  • development plan representations; and,
  • providing advice and guidance to clients throughout all stages of the planning process.

 You are likely to have around 6-8 years’ experience and have recently worked on medium/large scale planning applications, mainly but not exclusively for residential-led developments. You will therefore be familiar with, and have the ability to address, the planning issues typically associated with residential developments, including design and access, affordable housing, five year land supply, s.106 agreements, and various technical considerations.


As an Associate Directors you must demonstrate a very high level of technical competence, and quality of work, carried out with minimal supervision. You will be expected to have a good standard of written and spoken English, with good analytical and interpersonal skills.  You will be working on a number of projects and so must also demonstrate the ability to manage projects and their own time and workload.  You will also have market credibility and show a proven ability to win new work and clients, and nurture existing client relationships to win repeat business.


Minimum requirements are:

  • at least 2.1 at first degree level;
  • RTPI accredited town planning qualification. (A RICS accredited qualification (planning & development route) would also be acceptable.  This will be at Master’s level.
  • MRTPI qualified.
